The first thing I did was take "The Tour". I found it helpful because it gave a basic overview of the site. Then I checked out the interesting uploads from the last seven days. I found an amazing landscape (jpeder55's Ruby Rocks) and I checked out the photographer's other landscapes. All of them were amazing. I love landscapes, they are my favorite type of photographs, after animal portraits, of course. Which were the next thing I searched for. I found a lot of amazing photos.
I really like this site, because I can search for landscapes and discover places I might want to travel. And I also like to check out the animal photos to see them photographed in the wild and scope out other zoos. I came across a group called "Flickr Big Cats", that I would like to join at a later date, when I have more time.
Yesterday I only had a few minutes and I was poking around looking at the pictures that came up when I searched leopards as a tag. I don't know if there is a way to save the images that you like, either I didn't get that far in my exploration, or you have to have an account. Anyway, I was looking for a particular photo I had seen yesterday, when I started this blog. It has taken me over an hour to find it. ARRGHH. One of the first things I don' like about the site. The other thing I discovered, is that tags don't have to be correct and that can lead you to images you are not searching for. For example: someone posted a photo of a giant panda. The tags were: Atlanta, zoo, panda, tiggers (no, this is not a typo by me), leopards, turtles, lions, and tjd. I realize that these other animals are probably in photos posted at the same time, but I did not need it to come up on my search for leopards. Maybe this is especially irritating to me personally, because as a zookeeper, I really, really hate it when I hear people say "Look at the tiger, lion, cheetah, etc." when they are standing right next to the sign that says Amur Leopard. Tiger is the most popular one, in case you were wondering. This is the link to the panda photo mentioned above:

This is a very interesting post and I really appreciate it. If you are in your flickr account you can "favorite" photos (click on the star for the photo) and then you can easily find it again.... There are also sometimes the download options on some photos so you can actually download it and save it and have it. You sound like a librarian with your classification talk of animals! ;-) We will talk about this in class - very valuable observations and comments here. Thanks!
